Ecological Anthropology and Ethnobiology seminar (Marta Irving & Denis Chartier)

We received, on this occasion, Marta IRVING (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) and Denis CHARTIER (Université d’Orléans).

Their papers presented the political and social challenges with regard to environment conservation in the specific Brazilian context.

The discussion was around the historical and institutional evolution of environment conservation methods applied during the last 30 years.

The emphasis was put on the conflicts on representation and action that arise between the different social protagonists who are involved and concerned by the question of environment conservation such as : institutional actors, civil society, governments and ministries, researchers, NGOs, users, indigenous population, etc

Aim of the seminar

The seminar aims to promote regular meetings between the different constituent parts of the Laboratory : Ecological Anthropology and Ethnobiology, in order to initiate interdisciplinary exchange and cooperation on some common issues. The debate on these common issues will certainly help enrich the activities of the Museum and its different constituent parts : HNS department (Département Homme, Nature, Société), Master, inter-departments cooperation, and the new Musée de l’Homme. The work session will be based upon a simple principle : a researcher makes a presentation of the text that he/she submitted previously to two researchers from different disciplines. These researchers will act as contributors.
